Brief History about the Municipality of Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija

During the arrival of the Spaniards, the whole Central Plain of Luzon was virgin forest. Only the aborigines roamed the countryside. Food supply was more than enough for them. As time passes and population continues to grow, more and more demands are made for land and its resources. So much so that on the later part of the 17th century, people residing at or near the centers of population began looking for a better place to live in.

People from the Ilocos and Bulacan started to go to the interior, where land is plentiful and wildlife is abundant. Settlers poured into what is now known as the province of Nueva Ecija, lured by the fertility of the soil and the flat topography of the land. Migrant who came to Sto. Domingo found the place plenty of Buri Palms and so they called the place Pulong Buli. The residents being highly religious had as their Patron Saint, Santo Domingo de Guzman, so that when the place became a full-fledged municipality, they named the municipality as Sto. Domingo.

In 1903, while the Philippines was still under the American Occupation, Sto. Domingo was reverted to the status of a barrio of the town of Talavera. Upon proper representations, however, of prominent residents of this place, Sto. Domingo was again elevated to the status of a municipality. Descendants of the original founders of this town are the Alejos, Juans, Samatras, Salamancas, Andresses, Pascuals and Tomases.
